The honest version

Most people replace a hot water system in a panic, and pay for it twice

Your hot water system fails on a Sunday. Someone comes out, installs whatever is on their van, and the household is back to hot showers within the hour. It works. It is also the most expensive decision available, because the unit that fits in a hurry is rarely the unit that suits the house, and the rebate that would have covered a real chunk of the cost is gone the moment the paperwork is skipped.

The alternative is not complicated. Get the right system sized for your household, get the rebate you are entitled to, and get it installed by people who do this specific job several hundred times a year. That is the entire proposition here.

If you have no hot water right now, call us on 0400 667 721. We can often get a temporary solution running so you are not making a five to fifteen year decision in a cold shower. Emergency hot water.

  • A photo of the space around it, standing back
  • A photo of your switchboard, cover open
  • How many people live in the house
  • How many bathrooms

What we do

Everything a heat pump hot water system needs, and nothing it doesn’t

Supply, installation, replacement, servicing and the rebate paperwork in between. General plumbing is not on the list, and never will be.

Why a specialist

A specialist and a generalist are not the same trade

One system type, not ten

Heat pump hot water is the whole business. We are not a general plumber who installs one occasionally, which is why we get through 500 to 600 of them a year.

Documented on every job

Installation procedures, photo verification and quality control on every install, whether it is your home or the four hundredth house in a program.

Licensed and accredited

Plumbing and gas fitting licence 42637, electrical licence D17895, accredited with Solar Victoria and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.

A fixed price, agreed first

Quotes are fixed on scope, not time and materials. If site conditions turn out different, we talk to you before anything changes.

Rebates

The rebate is the difference between thinking about it and doing it

Eligible rebates come off the price we quote you, not off a figure we invent later. Between the Solar Victoria Hot Water Rebate, Small-scale Technology Certificates and Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates, the upfront cost of an upgrade often drops by several thousand dollars, depending on your eligibility and the program settings at the time.

We will not quote you a fixed rebate figure on a website, because those figures move and you would be right to be annoyed if it changed. What we will do is confirm your exact number in a real quote and submit the paperwork on your behalf.

What we handle for you

  • Working out which programs you qualify for
  • Deducting the rebate from your quoted price
  • Rebate photos taken correctly on the day
  • QR code scanning for Solar Victoria projects
  • Documentation submitted and followed up
  • Compliance certificates issued and sent

How it works

Four steps, and you only have to do the first one

No sales visit unless the job genuinely needs one. For most homes, a few photos are enough to quote from.

  1. Tell us about your system

Send a few photos of your current unit, the space around it and your switchboard. For most homes that is all we need to quote.

  2. A fixed-price quote

One price covering supply, installation, removal of the old system, commissioning and certificates. Any rebate you are eligible for is already deducted.

  3. Install day

All-in-one systems usually take 1.5 to 2.5 hours on site. Split systems 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Your old system leaves with us for recycling.

  4. Certificates, then support

Compliance certificates and rebate paperwork are handled and sent through, and we walk you through running the system. We are still here when you call later.

Who you are dealing with

Founded by the person who used to train the installers

Simon Weatherburn spent more than a decade as National Service and Training Manager at Stiebel Eltron Australia before starting Expert Hot Water & Plumbing in 2019 with Elisha Ross. Before this business existed, his job was teaching other people’s plumbers how to install and service these systems properly.

That is the whole reason the business is built the way it is: documented procedures, photo verification, quality control on every job, and a preference for telling you something you would rather not hear over quoting you something that will not work.

Questions

The things people ask before they call

What does a heat pump hot water system cost to install?

We quote a fixed price after looking at your existing system, the electrical work required, the pipework, site access and the space the new unit needs. That price covers supply where we are supplying, installation, removal of the old system, commissioning and certificates, with any rebate you qualify for already deducted.

We are not the cheapest quote you will get, and we do not pretend to be. What we are is the quote that does not change halfway through the job.

What rebates can I get on a heat pump?

Depending on eligibility and current program settings, a heat pump hot water upgrade can attract the Solar Victoria Hot Water Rebate, Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs). Together these often reduce the upfront cost by several thousand dollars.

Program settings change, so we do not publish a fixed figure. We confirm exactly what you are eligible for in your quote and handle the paperwork. More on rebates and eligibility.

How long does the installation take?

With standard access and a single visit, an all-in-one system (compressor and tank in the one unit) usually takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours on site. A split system, where the compressor and tank are separate, usually takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours because of the extra compressor and controller wiring.

Multi-storey homes and difficult access can run longer. If we expect that, we tell you before install day rather than on it.

Are heat pumps noisy?

A heat pump has a compressor and a fan, so it makes some noise while it is running, roughly comparable to a household air conditioner outdoor unit. Where the unit is placed matters more than which brand you buy. We look at the position against bedroom windows, neighbouring properties and fence lines as part of quoting, and we will tell you if a location is going to be a problem.

Will I run out of hot water?

Not if the system is sized properly. Sizing comes down to how many people are in the house, how many bathrooms, and when you use hot water. Undersizing is the most common reason people are unhappy with a heat pump, which is why we ask about your household rather than defaulting to whatever size is on the truck.

Do you do general plumbing as well?

No. Hot water systems and the work directly related to them is all we take on. If you need a general plumber for a leaking tap, a blocked drain or a bathroom renovation, we are not the right business for that job and we will say so up front.

Which suburbs do you cover?

Our core service area is roughly 30km from our Laverton North warehouse, covering Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, Maribyrnong and neighbouring municipalities. For commercial partners and program work we travel across metropolitan Melbourne, with travel charges applied where they apply and always discussed first. See the areas we serve.
