It is over ten years old
Most storage systems are on borrowed time past the decade mark. Age alone is not a reason to replace, but age plus any other sign on this list usually is.
You are running out of hot water
Sediment build-up and a failing element or heat exchanger both show up the same way: shorter showers before it goes cold.
You have paid for a repair recently
One repair on an older unit is often sensible. A second one inside a year is usually money spent slowing down the inevitable.
There is rust or water around the base
A weeping tank does not get better. It gets sudden, and usually at the least convenient moment.
Your bills have crept up
An old electric storage unit is the most expensive way to heat water in a Victorian home. A heat pump does the same job for a fraction of the running cost.
You are getting off gas anyway
If solar, an induction cooktop or a full electrification plan is already on the table, hot water is the single biggest gas load in most homes and the obvious first move.
Like for like, or an upgrade
You do not have to replace what you had
Plenty of replacement enquiries start as ‘same again please’ and end somewhere better once the numbers are on the table. Moving from electric storage or gas to a heat pump changes the running cost significantly, and it is the only path that brings the Victorian rebate programs into play.
That said, we are not going to push you off gas if it does not stack up for your house. If the electrical work required is disproportionate, or the only viable position for a compressor is under a bedroom window, we will say so. Honest advice occasionally costs us the bigger job. We would rather that than a callback.

Send a few photos of your current unit, the space around it and your switchboard. For most homes that is all we need to quote.
A fixed-price quote
One price covering supply, installation, removal of the old system, commissioning and certificates. Any rebate you are eligible for is already deducted.
Install day
All-in-one systems usually take 1.5 to 2.5 hours on site. Split systems 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Your old system leaves with us for recycling.
Certificates, then support
Compliance certificates and rebate paperwork are handled and sent through, and we walk you through running the system. We are still here when you call later.

What people ask about this
Can you replace it the same day?
Sometimes, depending on what is in stock and what the site needs. If we cannot get to it immediately and you have no hot water, tell us on the phone and we will look at a temporary solution so you are not making a fifteen year decision in a cold shower.
What happens to my old system?
It leaves with us for recycling. That is included in the quoted price, not an extra line at the end.
Is a heat pump worth it if my current system still works?
If it is under about eight years old and working, usually not yet. If it is older, or you are already spending money on it, running the numbers is worth an hour of your time. We will give you a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
Do I lose the rebate if I replace in an emergency?
Rebate programs have eligibility rules and documentation requirements that are much easier to satisfy when the job is planned than when it is a Sunday scramble. That is the practical argument for replacing before failure rather than after it.
